br /The new Mino is simple and so easy to use right out of the box. See it demonstrated here in this very short video. Also see how it uploads. I made the video using the old Flip Ultra (the version that came right before the Mino), which I like; however, the new Mino is lighter, smaller, and performs some functions a bit easier.
br /
br /Note that the new Mino fits the same tripod that the old Ultra did, thank goodness!
br /
br /If money is an issue, you can save a few dollars by buying the old Flip Ultra, they do work great (they are a bit bigger and you have to put in two AA batteries). I'm still using mine, along with the new one. I enjoy them both!
br /
br /Highly recommended.

Perfect supplement to larger consumer camcorders

a href="http://www.amazon.com/review/R3E0PT9O91LNB6"Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R3E0PT9O91LNB6/a The Flip Mino is the perfect supplement to larger consumer camcorders. I carry mine in my pocket and am finding opportunities to spontaneously capture fun moments. These are perfect little videos for the Web - I usually add them to my blog.
br /
br /I would not recommend the Flip Mino as your primary camcorder -- if you plan on using it for all of your home videos -- especially if you are planning to burn them to DVDs. Instead, get one if, like me, you like the idea of having a camcorder handy for those fun moments when out-and-about -- or those times when lugging around a full-size camcorder isn't practical.
br /
br /I shot this short little video with my Flip Mino when my wife and I decided to visit the outlet mall in Petaluma, Calif. It was my debut video using the Flip Mino. I edited the video on my Mac (PowerBook G4).

Replacing a Flip ULTRA with a Flip MINO

This is my THIRD Flip video camera. I owned 2 of the Flip Ultra 60 minutes cameras before purchasing this one. I had actually lost one of my originals and had loaned out the other to my mom in another state. I was headed for vacation and needed a camera.
br /
br /The major differences between the new Mino and the Ultra are:
br / Mino is smaller. Shorter and thinner.
br / Mino does not take batteries, only charges through the USB.
br /
br /The video quality of the Mino is the same as an Ultra. They function is the same. It may or may not be worth the larger price tag... I have not decided yet.
br /
br /A MAJOR 'PROBLEM' IS THAT I DID NOT KNOW THE HIGH DEF VERSION WAS GOING TO BE RELEASED SO SOON AFTER THE RELEASE OF THE MINO. IF I HAD KNOW, I WOULD HAVE HELD OFF AND PURCHASED THE HD FLIP.

What's not to love?

The Flip Mino is perfect for those spur of the moment, 'video-opps' at home or on the go. (For the ultimate free guide to all things Flip, [...]) This thing is so teenie that sometimes I forget I have it with me. The the earlier versions, the Mino is incredibly easy to use. The big improvement over the Ultra is the inclusion of an internal battery, so no more battery changes. The Flip recharges when it's connected to your computer, where it also downloads the video. In addition to the AOL and YouTube "instant" uploads, the Mino adds MySpace to the mix. The Flip Mino is great for up close and personal videos, but it's not meant for anything more than four or five feet away. Still, there's no better minicam for the money!

Excellent Small Camcorder

If anyone is out there look for a small form camcorder then this is an excellent device to get. I will be clear though that this little camera has a specific audience and place and may not be the right choice for everyone. The video quality is very good for VGA and audio is surprisingly crisp, but this is not the type of camera you are going to bring out to your child's sporting event to film them. The Mino just simply does not have the zooming capabilities to do something like that.
br /
br /What it is useful for is the close quarters filming that often occurs with family members. Indoor events or something at a BBQ for example. The almost instant startup time makes it a must have for capturing those spontaneous moments in your life where people make fools of themselves or where you need to get something quickly.
br /
br /The plug and play functionality is nice, but if you are a Mac user as I am you will find the performance of the built in software to be sub-par compared to that of iPhoto or iMovie. The good news though is that on the Mac the Flip shows up as any other camera does. iPhoto automatically launches and will import your videos for you. From there you can one click launch them into iMovie for editing (and upload to youtube) or upload them to a Me account right from either iPhoto or iMovie.

If you are looking for a small camcorder or if you don¡¦t want miss the opportunity to capture any enjoyable moment, this is the perfect for you. I have a normal camcorder all the required features. But I was using it very often. I am sure I have missed many inserting moments. Mainly there were 2 reasons:
br /
br /X Not easy to carry
br /X Need to carry other accessories with it
br /X Not easy to download the video and edit
br /
br /But this one does not have any of these problems. If you are not using it professional purpose it is a good choice. I like this for following reasons:
br /
br /X Small and handy
br /X May be carried in pocket
br /X Easy to download the video
br /X Nice look
br /X Easy to charge and no need to carry any other equipment
br /X Easy to share in online
br /X Good clarity and resolution
br /
br /Hope going forward I will not miss any occasions.
br /
br /The only bad part, it does not have good zoom. I did not except any zoom from this much small camcorder.

I bought the Flip Mino on the recommendation of Kevin Rose (of Digg fame). We were going to a Nine Inch Nails concert that allowed video recording. This concert has an extremely intense light show and we were in the front row in front of a wall of speakers. Needless to say, we did not have high hopes for getting anything useable.
br /
br /Boy were we wrong. The video came out incredible. The light show didn't overpower the camera. The stability of the picture is excellent. The ease of use being constantly shoved into or pulled out of cargo shorts was awesome. Considering I was 4 feet from a wall of speakers the sound was awesome. A little fuzzy on the base, but totally listenable. The zoom was simple and effective. Considering the low-light/intense light contrast, it was great. The battery life was enough to shoot the full 60 minutes, watch it playback on a tv twice, upload it to the computer and never go below 75% power.
br /
br /It came time to upload it to our Mac Powerbook. I plugged it into the usb port, installed the software and uploaded all 11 videos. I wanted to watch them on my iphone though. I downloaded a free conversion software called Prism and converted the .avi's into mpeg-4's. This only took a couple of minutes and was super easy. I then converted the mpeg-4 movies into iphone movies using iTunes. Done. I have since uploaded to youtube and megaupload without a hitch.
br /
br /I highly recommend this product. It does what it says. It does it extremely well. It is tiny. It looks like a cell phone. It is the simplest piece of technology I own next to my iPod Shuffle. It is easier to use than a regular iPod and even my grandmother can use that!
br /
br /Enjoy

From dagblog.com
br /
br /My One Favorite Thing this week is the Flip Mino video camera. What a clever little device. I've been using it a ton on my Thanksgiving trip home, including capturing the touching moment when my girlfriend and i first surprised my parents. The Mino was made for that type of event - a short experience when you either don't want to lug around a more substantial or expensive video camera or when you want to be somewhat surreptitious that you're taping things.
br /
br /The Mino feels good to hold in the hand, and operating the device, especially the responsive touch sensitive control panel, is both easy and enjoyable. It holds an hour of video and the battery lasts quite a while. It has a nifty USB plug attached (but normally hidden) which charges the device when connected to a computer as well as launches a software program that allows you to work with your clips.
br /
br /The video imaging software is basic but relatively easy to use (though certainly not as seamless or genius as ITunes). You can share videos with others via private email or by uploading (compressed versions) to public Web sites. You can edit videos for length, and also make very simple movie mixes, with the free version of the software but for more indepth options, you'll have to upgrade to the rather costly premium version (which I think is sheer nonsense - Pure Digital, the makers of the Mino, ought to realize that software differentiation and functionality will be key if they are to be anything more than a flash in the pan).
br /
br /As far as other suggested improvements, I'd like a bigger LCD screen in the front (or better yet, a small screen on the side with the camera lens so you can see what you're filming when you're pointing the camera at yourself). A headphones jack on the device would be convenient for playback. Also, I'd like a way to customize the length of the auto shut-off option as several times I've attempted to capture a fleeting moment only to realize the device powered down (and takes several seconds to boot back up). I also wish it had a better zoom functionality.
br /
br /Technically the video and audio is pretty darn good, more than sufficient for Web viewing, and ok for TV as well, which you can do with an included cable. My device isn't high def, tho they just came out with a new Flip camera that is HD (it's more expensive and a bit bigger and heavier, and taking a bunch of HD videos would quickly eat up a lot of space on a hard drive).
br /
br /Obviously, a lot of digital cameras and even mobile phones take video but the simplicity and features of the Mino make it a compelling stand-alone product. Right now, Apple can't even do pictures well with its iPhone, but I'm sure eventually they'll find a way to effectively converge video functionality so that the Mino becomes obsolete.
br /
br /In the meantime, however, I highly recommend anyone interested in a portable, fun, easy-to-use, fairly inexpensive video camera that is perfect for taking short video clips and then sharing them on the Web with others take a look at the Mino.

the flip mino is amazing. everything positive they say about it is true. it's idiot proof (this particular idiot is proof of that), convenient (so convenient you might even forget you had it with you). it's discreet and candid enough to make the first few seconds of shooting that priceless piece of footage a genuine experience before the "omg are you filming this?" effect kicks in. yes, it's true i should have waited another few days for the hd version, but i had no idea there was one coming (i certainly would have waited as the price difference is a realistic and reasonable one). the only beef i have is with the otherwise very excellent software: it would be great to have a really accurate cutting and splicing tool and be able to accurately edit on a sound track (i.e. use a live recorded high quality concert source to splice onto the same concert's live recorded flip footage and remove the flip soundtrack. either this or uprate the sound quality of a flip hd player to do 16 bit stereo .... dream on! altogether a great innovative product.

This camcorder is very small, easy to use, easy to carry around in your pocket, and a blast to create short videos, as well as full (60 minutes) videos. The pop-up USB connector makes it very simple to connect to your computer, charge, and edit your videos. It may take you a little time to get used to its small size, but once done, you will enjoy recording your everyday life all the time. I love mine!

This is the first video camera I've ever owned (I'm 58 yrs old), and I love it! Video quality is excellent (even in low light). I have not tried viewing it on a large TV, but the playback looks great on a 19" monitor. Best quality is observed at the "normal" size (about 8" diagonal) but the full screen version is perfectly acceptable. Audio quality indoors is good up to about 8 feet from the subject. Comments made by the person holding the camera while recording are extremely clear.
br /Battery life so far has been NO ISSUE. A continuous 30 minute recording does not even move the battery charge indicator bar. Beware of incredibly large files though! A 30 minute recording will consume 900 Mb, and I've found no way to share files that large. There must be a way to convert the files to DVD on the computer, but I'm not savvy enough to figure it out yet. The included software says you can edit the files too, but the instructions have thus far eluded me. I consider that to be a user problem, not a product issue. Just be prepared to dedicate a LOT of computer memory to file storage!
br /Another restriction is camera shake. Mino is so small and light that it's nearly impossible to hold steady. Pressing buttons to zoom or start/stop will almost certainly result in a shake, but most people will figure out how to clip the ends in editing. I did buy the little tripod which eliminates the problem.
br /Despite the few difficulties, I do highly recommend this camera after 3 months use.

The Mino Flip is a great little video camera. I bought it when it first came out, and even though I paid $180, I have really enjoyed the Flip. Though video quality is FAR, FAR from HD (they now have an HD version), it is as easy to use as can be. It can be stored in pants pocket and video taken is easily transferred to any computer.

The Mino turned out to be just the thing: easy to carry around, easy to use, and the software makes sharing video simple also. That said, the quality of the video is more than adequate for my needs.
br /
br /As an aside, I had the Mino for a week or so before I gave it to them, so I played with it a bit (in case I wanted my own later), and several friends saw it and tried it out also. Three of them later bought one!

My wife and I were watching our grandson throw toys all over our family room. Since he is our grandson he can do no wrong. My wife asked, "why don't we have the video camera here when we need it?" I answered as nicely as I always do. "Because it has so many wires, batteries, cords, tapes...." Then I looked on Amazon and found the Flip Video Mino. I bought it, and quickly received it, and when I removed it from the box, it was love at first sight. The heavens opened, and the angels began to sing. It is rather hard to use though...push the red button to begin recording, push the same red button to stop. That's it! I mean that is really it. I love it. I'm 62 years old. When I grab Flip from my pocket, and push that little red button, I'm 21 again....but still wrinkled! Oh, buy two. Then the little woman won't need to talk at all!

Easy to use. Not-bad image quality. Decent sound. Pretty good in all lighting. Perfect for shooting video at holiday parties.
br /
br /Won't replace a real camcorder, but it's not really supposed to--besides, camcorders are, generally, bulky, obtrusive, and oftentimes sacrifice enjoying events as they happen for the ability to preserve them for posterity. Software's a wee bit balky with Macs, but there are ways around that.

For what this is and what it does -- it is just great! I've made a short video of a national basketball game just to see if I could, and was pleasantly surprised at the results. I also took a 40 minute video of a memorial service after a funeral for a friend and again was quite pleased. If you're looking or a professional video camera, this ain't it. But if you want something you can stick in your pocket and pull out for quick video opportunities, the Flip Video Mino will do the rick. I'd buy it again!

Totally intuitive interface; so easy to use! The unit is beautifully designed. Amazing price for such a satisfying and sophisticated product. The quality of the video is fine for full screen laptop display and it does an excellent job even in low light situations; also audio is excellent. Now I want the HD version! One caveat; to transfer videos to your iPhone you will have to install some proprietary software to convert the Flip's AVI files to MP4.

Flip Video Mino Series Camcorder, 60 Minutes (Black)
br /This is one great, easy to operate video camera. Virtually a point and shoot device. Using the computer installed software, you can easily extract any frame of the video for a still picture to save on your computer, email and/or print. Only drawback I've seen is that it is slow to set up and send an email with a Flip video attachment. For the price and simplicity, you can't beat it. And it's small enough to fit in your shirt pocket. This Flip is no flop!

It's real small which is great, fits in a pocket. Takes clear pictures (I haven't taken any closeups yet). I have to get used to the idea that it's moving pictures (I'm used to still cameras) so my pictures all start out focusing on my feet or floor or something (have to edit that part out). I love the fact that the USB connection is built in; I can just plug it into my computer and not only upload the video but also charge the camera while I'm fooling around on the computer, don't have to keep track of where the cord it or anything (that built in jazz is brilliant). I'm not a good cinematographer and my vids aren't going to be interesting or breathtakingly well shot, I don't expect them to be. I just want to take short shots of people and places and things that interest me. The "software" that comes [in?] the camera allows you to upload the vid in a tighter format for easier emailing out, squeezes down the size vastly so your recipients' emailboxes don't get overwhelmed. It's just a nifty, handy little camcorder that can be tucked in a pocket or purse, whipped out when you need it. I think it's worth the money. No memory card needed or battery replacements. Maybe now my pictures won't come out so blurry because they will be moving pictures for sure.

br /
br /There is a reason that the warranty is only 90 days, because the battery fails after 5 months, even if used very little, and refuses to hold a charge now. I've attempted to reset it with a pin in the bottom and holding the button countless times, it's dead.
br /
br /A 90-day warranty on a built-in non-replacable battery is a very bad idea, and an even worse product. Do not buy this unless you plan on purchasing a second within 6 months.

We have a grandson of 18 months which makes this the idea camera for taking videos and emailing to friends and family. We had earlier purchased another one for our son to send us videos of the family. As of now my sister and niece have them so keeping up with our family as they grow has become so much easier for all of us.Very easy to use. Overall we couldn't be happier and the price range is extremely reasonable.

Fantastic...

I love the convenience of my Flip Video. It fits in my pocket so I can carry it anywhere. When I'm ready to download my videos, I plug the camera directly into my USB port and click on the prompts that pop up on my screen. I am not a technology geek, so this is the perfect video camera for me.

Bought 4 minos (Amazon had the best price), one for each of my adult children and one for my sister! It keeps us all connected! My sister is retired and RVs so she shares the wide-open spaces as she travels. Nothing beats viewing the grandkids on video almost instantly! I feel pretty smart with my Christmas shopping this year.

i purchased the mino just over a month ago. i was primarily looking for a video camera that was small, had a decent battery and made it easy to transfer the footage. the flip meets all three qualifications. i've used my flip more in the past few weeks than i've used my larger camcorder in the past three years collectively. it's small size makes it perfect to keep in my purse so that it's always at hand for the random, funny moments that you never expect but would love to have recorded.
br /
br /at first, i was concerned that the 60 minute battery life wouldn't be enough. however, in the past three weeks i've taken it out with friends, to a political rally, and on a weekend trip and have had plenty of time and battery life left. it's an extremely simple process to transfer the footage to your computer so i no longer have to worry about footage sitting on my camcorder for months at a time. plus, i really like that i can email it to my friends in a matter of minutes.
br /
br /so far, i have two negatives: (1) i was recording last weekend and it froze while i was recording. it wouldn't turn off so i had to let the battery die before i could do anything with it. thankfully, it froze just as i was finished recording. however, i am concerned that it may happen again. (2) the video editing software that is on the flip is extremely basic. to really do anything w/ your footage, you need to purchase additional software. while i didn't expect it to come w/ top-notch software, i thought it would be a little more advanced.
br /
br /a friend has the original flip and while it really isn't that much larger than the mino, i definitely prefer the mino. it's a sleeker design that is worth the extra few dollars. overall, i love my flip. i'm confident that i will record a lot more memories than i ever would have w/ a regular camcorder.

Five Star Flip Mino

I orignally owned the Kodak Zi6 and returned it because, contrary to Kodak's specifications, there were no directions at the web site to which you were directed. Kodak obviously rushed their Zi6 into release to compete with the Flip Mino and failed miserably. The Flip Mino is everything and more that the Kodak Zi6 ia nor.
br /The Flip Mino is justifiably deserving of five star ratings in ease of operation (take it out of the box, turn it on, press one button to begin recording), video quality (comparable to full-size camcorders), utility (download videos to your computer, transmit videos as email attachments, burn DVDs, snap photos, upload to various web sites, and more),four-hour encased lithium battery that recharges in three hours all in a unit that is smaller and lighter than your cellphone. The maximum 60-minute recording time before having to download is plenty. Ask yourself when you last watched a 60-minute camcorder recording. Customer support is also exceptional with almost immediate responses, in addition to detailed information at "Support" at web site.
br /The only negative is that the optional Flip Video Quick Recharger, which recharges the lithium battery in two hours, is not yet available.
br /Note that this review is for the Flip Mino and not the basic Flip or Ultra, which use AA batteries.
br /I never leave home without my Flip Mino.

My Mino arrived yesterday afternoon, and within five minutes of my diddling with it, I had the time and date updated, and my first minute shot of my 8-year-old daughter feeding the dog. (She asked to see that footage over and over and over, she was thrilled.)
br /
br /We played with it some more, and it was just as easy to put the file on my laptop and charge the Mino fully by letting the laptop "feed it."
br /
br /I am really happy with this; it's in my pocket now; and I plan to use it to post to my blogs and take lots of shots of my daughter. I'm only sorry I hadn't seen this/bought this before our vacation last June ...

If you don't want to invest in a more bulky expensive camcorder, the Flip Mino is just the thing. Lightweight, and compact, it's great on the go. Being able to charge in a computer makes it excellent for travel without needing extra power chords. Excellent microphone picks up background audio. One touch recording w/zoom controls at your finger tips, makes use easy. Two possible drawbacks: 1-not ideal for low light conditions; 2-uploading videos for emailing, etc. not very intuitive. I expected a pop-up prompt or at least an icon saying 'new software detected.' You need to go to MY COMPUTER to find and run what you need. Those two minor things aside, excellent product for the price.

I usually don't take the time and trouble to write reviews since most of the time, I'm not so excited about a product that I feel compelled to make the effort. I must admit this is one of the few electronic devices I have purchased (and I've purchased tons) that I've found to be fairly user-friendly. The built-in software is a great feature. The device is fairly idiot-proof. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to operate this. The results are decent. The best feature is its portability. I haven't tried to do much with it other than record and play back. The only thing I don't like is the awkwardness in plugging it into the back of my computer. I should use a USB extension, but I've had problems with electrical shorts, so I don't use any extensions. It's a pain to get on my knees and peer through the dark for a slot only to find that I have to move cables around to get a slot that will enable me to plug in the camcorder. With laptops it's not a problem.
br /I recorded a school concert with this Flip camcorder and with my Hitachi. The Flip recording came out better much to my dismay. I'm very disappointed with the Hitachi having spent multiple times more $$. While the Flip recording came out fine, I wanted a higher quality recording. Guess I'll have to spring for another camcorder

It is super compact and very easy to use. The built in software is not very good, it's very limited and doesn't really work that well. The camcorder is simple in every way, which isn't necessarily a good thing. It has zero features, not even an options menu or anything. The zoom is digital which basically just stretches the pixels sacrificing the fidelity of the picture. I think this is a neat toy, but in the end all you are really paying for is it's compact size.

Sirs:
br /
br / The Mino is an excellent product. I have used it in many situations and have found only one minor difficulty - stabilization.
br /
br / I have tried using the Mino while walking and I can keep a subject in frame and not too jerky, but the 'bounce' created from my pace is nearly impossible to overcome.
br /
br / However, even then, the results are quite amazing.
br /
br / So, for the next generation, may I suggest increasing resolution and improving stabilization.
br /
br / As for the Amazon title - Amazon offered this product in two colors for the same price. While my order was processing, Amazon reduced the price of the white Mino by $20. I had ordered a white Mino, which I did not receive until many weeks after the discound was announced, but I did not receive the anticipated discount.
br /
br / IOW - Amazon cheats its customers.

Just ordered and will return this item. Eventhough the Flip is easy to use, the quality of the video is poor at best. For $235 the quality should be better. My Nikon Coolpix digital camera takes better video and zooms much better.
