I give this one 4 out of 5 stars. The video quality is excellent in brightly-lit conditions, but in the dark, the video is virtually nonexistent. There is no built-in light and no place to hook up a flash, so this makes the camera almost useless at night.
br / I love the size of it. It fits in a shirt pocket, and, unless you know what you're looking at, it's almost indistinguishable from a regular still camera, which it will act as also.
br / It also functions as an MP3 player, but personally, I wouldn't use it for that. The audio quality on playback is very much like an old transistor radio.
br / It records directly onto an SD memory card, so the only moving parts are for the focus.
br / I bought two 1-gig SD memory cards for it, and at the superfine setting (which is TV quality) I can fit about 23 minutes of video on each. This dovetails great with a battery life of about 45 minutes on a full charge (it will take up to a 2-gig card). Also, it records in AVI format, and with the codec that comes on CD with it, you can take the SD card out, pop it into your notebook, and play the video directly off the card. You can also hook it up to a USB port with the cable that's provided, and it shows up as a mass-storage device.
br / All in all, I would definitely recommend this one, if you take a lot of video during the day, or indoors in well-lighted areas.

I bought the camera at $270, it then dropped to $230, and now I see it's at $300! So in other words, keep an eye out for good deals. If you can get it for under $250 it's worth looking at. I'm a pilot and use this camera to shoot my travels, especially approaches into airports. In some aircraft I can squeeze it into a tiny spot such as a hand hold and it works perfectly. It can record with the LCD tucked away as long as the power is on. Unfortunately, it's small size is sometimes a problem. It's not possible to simply set the camera down and have it record. It either has to be hand held or proped up against something. Also, because it is so small, it's hard to get a good grip on it which can make it bounce around easily in your hands. A fix to this is to get a cheap monopod and attach the camcorder to it. This allows for added stability and an comfortable grip. You can also extend the monopod to get your camera way above your head or down near the ground for some interesting shots. Overall, it's an ok camcorder. I'm an avid photographer and just wanted to try my hand at digital video. It definately does the trick. I would give it 3.5 stars.

br /Pros
br /-Tiny, it's really not much bigger than your average pda/cell phone
br /-Easily tucks away among all my heavy still camera gear
br /-Easy to use, not a lot of features to get confused with
br /-I only use it for video, but other features are nice to have
br /-Has video-in so you can capture video from TV digitally
br /-You can take a lot of video with a 2GB card and 512MB internal memory
br /-10x zoom in such a tiny camera
br /-SD cards make it easy to transfer video
br /-Comes with decent software to make basic edits (all that I need)
br /
br /Cons
br /-Low quality video, but ok for basic playback on computer or tv
br /-No microphone input jack
br /-Low battery life (45min tops)
br /-Hard to find replacement batteries
br /-LCD screen hard to manipulate (doesn't stay put when at 45-degrees)
br /-Absolutely not usable in anything other than broad daylight
br /-Poor auto focus and manual focus is hard to judge on LCD screen
br /-I'm not sure if it's my computer or the software, but working with the audio in your videos often causes the program to freeze or skip.

This camcorder is great, for an amateur. I bought it for my [...]son after I returned the Sanyo Xacti VPC-C40 because it would not charge the battery a second time. The Sanyo was easier to transfer the video to a computer, no software to install. The Samsung is just as easy other than that. It only takes about 2 minutes to install the required files (2)on a computer running XP but might be a problem if you want to send the video to a family member since they won't have the dv driver and video codec. My son has made several short takes with only the TV for background light and they are fine. It will not accept any of my 2 gig SD cards but that may be because they've been used in other cameras. It works great with "new" 1 gig SD cards. If this camera was designed for fun then it hits the mark. If you want professional videos then you should buy a professional camera.

I had many of the initial issues with this little jewel, but found two ways to get things on track with my MacBook Pro. Google "deSEDG" and you will find an extremely helpful app that will allow you to convert the avi files so that you can open them in Quicktime and import them into iMovie.
br /
br /I also installed the Windows codec using Parallels, and this allowed me to view the files automatically in the Windows Media Player. Both results were excellent, and with iMovie I can edit them quite easily.

br /The information in the guides that comes with the camcorder are insufficient for those using the Mac, but at least there is now a way to benefit from this wonderful piece of equipment.

I also bought a Sanyo Xacti C40 at a local RadioShack for $199 and compare the two side by side. Samsung has a terrible video quality, even though it has 512MB internal storage and 10X optical zoom. Other than that, Xacti is better in every other aspect, including a much larger lens, better ergonomics, and much better video quality.

This camcorder has some nice features including a powerful zoom, automatic exposure, automatic focus, and a 720x480 video resolution. Though the camera dos not work well in low light conditions, the camera can be operated of the AC power supply, and a high capacity 3.7 volt 2400mAh battery can be purchased at: [...]
br /This optional battery will double the record time of the camera.

This little camera shoots great video. Don't buy it if your looking for a still camera because it doesn't do a good job at all in this area. If your looking for a compact video camera that fits in your pocket, then this is it. It shoots mpeg4 video which is good quality in a small file size. I'd also suggest getting a 2GB memory stick so you will have plenty of space to shoot your video. Great little camera!!!

Looking for a SD Video Cam. Did my homework, went to the Samsung USA website...This one looked good. Their website showed Mac OS supported. Got unit. Worked like a charm when hooked up to my TV set to view my first videos. Looked good, sounded good, pretty good video quality, looked like good build quality. If you just want to hook up to a PC, and want to buy unlimited SD cards, this could be a good product.
br /
br /But if you want to run/transfer your files on a Mac or PC, that's where the problems began. Although again in the owner's manual it said "Mac OS", when I would try to transfer file, sound would play, no video. So tried my PC laptop. Same thing. Sound only, no video. Did not load video codec that came with it, as a warning message came up that it was not certified by MS, and could cause system issues. Experimented with USB connection to Mac first, then PC, then just tried to transfer files direct from SD card...no go. Gave up, crossed my fingers, loaded the proprietary video codec on my PC laptop, restarted, still no go (a few times).
br /
br /Went to Samsung Support site...reasonable site, but no answers and no trouble shooting. Tried to link to email support from sc-mm10s page...link did not work (not from a mac or PC). So, my first return of a product to Amazon. Probably could have figured this out with many more hours of time and trying to actually get an answer from somebody, but just not worth it. I'm accustomed to Mac products and not having to go through these types of issues/troubleshooting. Still looking for a product like this, think it is a phenomenal concept to have a reasonable resolution, 45+ minutes of video on 1.5GB of internal and SD, but this unit is just not there yet. And I just hope the non-standard DV codec now on my laptop does not cause me troubles...Typically love samsung phones, have a samsung DLP, love it, and this product would be a winner if SW/Driver/Video codecs were seamless.
